History of Rockwood Hospital

Rockwood Hospital for Pets, LLC was founded in October 2000 by Dr. Chris McCarthy and her husband Denis.  Dr. McCarthy is a 1985 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine and had practiced veterinary medicine in the central Wisconsin area for 24 years.

She felt the need to open a hospital with a different emphasis than what had been considered conventional veterinary practice.

She wanted a hospital that emphasized the maintenance and promotion of health through nutrition and preventive care. She wanted to make available alternative therapies with an open mind towards alternative medicines including homeopathy and therapeutic nutrition along with conventional small animal medicine and surgery.

The present building was purchased, and then extensively remodeled.  The clinic operated out of the small front rooms during this construction phase.  The grand opening was July 2001.

We are also one of only a handful of veterinary hospitals in the entire state who have passed the rigorous inspection of the American Animal Hospital Association and we have been honored by being awarded accreditation as an AAHA hospital.
